Having a morning Skincare routine is an essential part of self-care. Not only does it rejuvenate and protect your skin, it boosts your self-confidence.
Over the years, I've been guilty of being inconsistent when it came to my skin. During my teenage years, I applied my skin care products in the wrong order; my skin care routine was simple and ineffective. Now that I am in my thirties, I have become more self-aware of the mistakes I have made and have decided to make changes. So in the last few months, I decided to step up and improve my skin care routine.
In this post, I present to you my morning skincare routine for smooth, healthy, and glowing skin. A routine that has been working well for me. If you want to add or remove products, feel free to do so!
It's essential to consider your skin type when choosing products.
If you have severe skin conditions, it's best to Contact a professional or dermatologist who can help you determine a suitable skin care routine tailored to your own skin type.
You can also make adjustments to the order of this routine, depending your skin type, skin conditions and skin tone.

Step 1. Gentle Cleanser
The first step would be the use of a cleanser.
A cleanser washes away the build up of oil, dirt and dead skin that was collected overnight.
An ideal cleanser won't leave your face feeling tight, cause inflammation and be abrasive to your skin so it's important to choose the correct Cleanser according to your skin type.
For example, a gel cleanser is more suitable for acne prone skin types Foam cleanser are more suitable for oily and combination skin types, cream cleansers are more suitable for dry skin and sensitive skin.
My skin is dry so my favourite is the CeraVe hydrating cleanser for normal to dry skin.
Step 2. Toner
The next step is applying a toner, which is meant to be used after washing your face. It restores your skin's pH balance, tightens pores, soothes and hydrates your skin, and provides a base for your other skin care products.
Back in the day, I never used to apply a toner because it would leave my skin feeling so dry. Today, toners are so much better because they contain ingredients that provide hydration and moisture.

Step 3. Serum

Serums have a lower viscosity but contain a concentrated amount of active ingredients aimed at treating or preventing skin issues like wrinkles, sun damage, acne, dark spots, redness, and dullness. They penetrate the skin and quickly absorb into it to stimulate certain processes in the skin that make it healthier and more resistant to ageing. Additionally, when applied after a moisturiser, they help lock in moisture.
I have dry skin, so what I currently use is hyaluronic acid (which provides hydration) and vitamin C, which prevents uneven and dull skin tone and helps rejuvenate the skin.
Vitamin C is an amazing antioxidant that brightens the skin and increases the production of collagen.
There are other different types of serums that target a specific skin problem, so it's essential to contact a professional to help pick the right one.

The skin around is eyes is fragile and thin, making it vulnerable to environmental factors such as UV rays. Eye cream nourishes the skin reducung the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

Step 5: Moisturizer
The next step would be a moisturiser. Moisturisers hydrate the skin, repair the skin barrier, and leave your skin looking smooth, supple, and youthful. A lot of moisturisers contain SPF, which helps protect your skin from the UV rays of the sun.

Step 6 Sunscreen
Last but definitely not least is Sunscreen. Sunscreen protects your skin against the sun's UV rays, preventing sunburn and other serious conditions like skin cancer and premature ageing. It's essential to apply it to your face, neck, and any part of the body that's going to be exposed to the sun. Don't forget to choose a Sunscreen that has an SPF (sun protection factor) of 30 or above.
